Cow Chorale

Looks like Peter has his heiffers organized for a cow choir. I wonder if he'll be able to get them to moo in tune. I think they're preparing to perform their version of "Git Along Little Dogies."

Thanks for the photo, Steve.

ACRES OF COWS

A recent visit to the feedlot where cows filled your vision almost as far as you can see, while their scent filled the nostrils for a very long ways, also!

Unique Creation

Peter's quilling scene shows a John Deere tractor pulling the feed wagon; stacked hay bales on the left. Patiently and tenderly crafted at DeBry's, February 2008.

Aaron's Sign

I was going through some photos from the past on my computer today and decided this one needed to go on the blog. I love this sign that Aaron designed and built. It was hanging from some chains at the feedlot, but the wind blew it down and damaged it. Ryan did some repair on it and it will soon be up again on a sturdier foundation.

Ouch!

This poor heifer is about to experience a serious "tongue lashing."

I guess every creature has to learn some things through experience.

Yesterday just before noon PMC called APC and asked: "How much do you love me?" I replied, LOTS--why? He then "invited" me to join him for a quick trip to the Boise area to deliver a couple of calves to an animal hospital near Caldwell. Of course, I was really excited to head out in uncertain winter weather for a really l-o-n-g drive. Shane was supposed to make the trip with our truck and horse trailer, but he got as far as Blackfoot and had problems with the truck--it stopped and wouldn't start again. Finally, he got it started but decided to head back to Shelley with his load. So Pete called the Kelleys and borrowed their truck. By that time Shane couldn't go because he had other evening plans. So Pete and I headed out on our 12-hour journey. I made some quick sandwiches and he brought chocolate milk and cookies. The roads weren't that bad, so we moved right along. I finished reading the third vampire novel before it got dark--I was going to read some to Pete, but it was too complicated for him to follow and keep track of all the different characters: humans, vampires, and werewolves! We fueled up on caffein drinks to keep our eyes WIDE open for the duration. We got back to Shelley just after midnight and collapsed until 7 a.m. Pete said when he got to the hospital people were wondering what had happened to him that he came in so late. We hauled two calves to the hospital. There is some kind of illness going around that they haven't had success treating. Hopefully the lab will come up with some help for them. The "hospital" is a teaching institution that does research.
